Asheville has no shortage of galleries, boutiques, and shops selling jewelry, but not all of them make what they sell. If you're searching for a jewelry store in Asheville, it's worth knowing the difference between a shop that curates pieces from wholesalers and a studio that designs, casts, and finishes jewelry on-site.
We're Gold Gold Gold, a two-person jewelry studio based in the Refinery building on Coxe Avenue, in Asheville's South Slope. Our studio was founded by Adam Grinovich and Annika Pettersson, two jewelers who met through years of hands-on work in metalsmithing, teaching, and design. Before opening in Asheville, we were resident artists at Penland School of Craft and taught jewelry and metalsmithing at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
What to Ask Before You Buy
When you're evaluating a jewelry store, a few questions can tell you a lot.
Is the piece solid metal, or plated? A lot of jewelry on the market is base metal with a thin gold or silver coating that wears off over time. Everything we make is solid 14k gold or solid sterling silver (925), never plated, so the color and value go all the way through.
Where is it actually made? We design and cast every piece ourselves using the lost-wax casting method, then hand-file, sand, and polish each one on-site. For components like chains that require specialized equipment, we work with a small number of trusted USA-based manufacturers rather than importing.
Can it be repaired? Because our pieces are solid metal and made in-house, we can repair almost anything we sell. That's not always true of jewelry sourced from overseas suppliers.
Why We're in Asheville
We chose Asheville deliberately. The mountain culture here values slowness and intention, and the proximity to Penland School of Craft keeps us connected to a serious community of makers. It's a different pace and philosophy than the fast-fashion jewelry model, and it shows in the pieces we make.
